On Wednesday, Manchester City will play at Bundesliga club Red Bull Leipzig for the Champions League.
Emil Forsberg, a midfielder for Red Bull Leipzig, claims his team can compete with the best following a 2-2 tie with Bayern Munich.
Leipzig blew a two-goal lead at home against the defending Bundesliga champions only days before playing Manchester City in the Champions League. The home team took the lead with to goals from Lois Openda and Castello Lukeba, but Bayern responded with goals from Harry Kane and ex-City star Leroy Sane.
In the end, Leipzig missed out on a chance to overtake the German powerhouses as Benjamin Sesko failed to convert a late cross. Forsberg, who is in his tenth season with the club, expressed disappointment after the game but said the outcome showed they can compete with Europe’s best.
“It was a tough game,” the midfielder said. When leading 2-0 at halftime, it’s not always simple to finish the game. The Bayern team has a lot of quality and never gives up. Constant attention and concentration were required.
But we proved ourselves to be a formidable unit as well. Our immediate attention must be on our upcoming match against Manchester City, for which we must be completely prepared.
Even if he was disappointed by the outcome, goalkeeper Janis Blaswich is still preparing for Wednesday’s match against Manchester City. The 32-year-old put a hand on Kane’s penalty kick in the 57th minute, but he was unable to prevent the goal.
“It’s disappointing for us in the end to end up with a 2-2 draw because we did extremely well in the first half,” Blaswich said. “The second half was difficult, particularly because we let up the equalizer just after we had a corner. That can’t be allowed to take place.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough that I put the penalty in the correct corner. Too good of a hit by Kane. The game’s last minutes were, once again, anxious affairs. We’ll look through the tape and get ready to play Manchester City again on Wednesday.
