Shearer commended Wolves for squeaking out a win and earning three valuable points. With their second victory of the season, they now have a four-point lead over the teams in last place.
“We know City commit men forward with the way they want to play, scoring goals,” Shearer said. If you can hit them on the counter, they’ll leave a little amount in the back for you, too. Wow, what a victory for Gary O’Neil and the Wolves!
With (Matheus) Cunha, (Pedro) Neto, and Hwang, they possessed amazing speed and passing skill in transition. They really nailed it.Manchester City lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday, and Mateo Kovacic was criticized for his performance.
After Manchester City were surprised by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Alan Shearer singled out Mateo Kovacic for criticism.
City’s horror at Molineux continued as they let up two goals despite only allowing one shot on goal to Ederson. An early own goal by Ruben Dias set the tone for a terrible journey to the Midlands, which was ultimately won by Hwang Hee-chan shortly after a superb equalizer by Julian Alvarez.
Rodri, a key figure in City’s recent success, was a topic of conversation after the game. Last weekend’s stupid red card wasn’t called because Pep Guardiola’s team was already up by so much against Nottingham Forest.

Rodri’s problem for City is laid bare
City struggled to establish themselves in the middle of the field without him yesterday, as they had done the previous week against Newcastle United. It’s shocking to see that since Rodri’s 2019 arrival, Guardiola’s team has lost 33% of their Premier League games while he wasn’t on the field.
Mateo Kovacic, who joined the team in the summer and was instructed to play deeper versus the Wolves, didn’t make much of an impression. Former England captain Shearer commented on the Serbian international’s penchant for turning the ball over on Match of the Day.
“Kovacic was moved around the lineup today because Rodri is suspended,” he explained. He sat in midfield and often gave the ball away. Manchester City is an extremely difficult team to beat. Yes, they do get lucky, but that’s just what’s been happening all day.
