In Saudi Arabia, O’Sullivan defeated the reigning world champion 5-2 to capture his fifth championship of the year.

 

However, he did not win by potting the golden ball, which is worth £395,000 if potted in addition to the 147 and rests on the bottom cushion for as long as a maximum break is feasible.

Throughout the whole Riyadh tournament, John Higgins came the closest to hitting the golden ball. However, after hitting all 15 reds and blacks in his first-round match against Mark Williams, he misplayed the yellow ball.

O’Sullivan won the first frame with a break of 95, but Brecel leveled the match with a powerful second frame rally.

The Belgian seized the lead with a break of 81 in the third frame, but O’Sullivan tied the match again with a 94 clearance after the Belgian missed a black in the following one.

After the break, O’Sullivan stormed to victory, earning his 79th professional title with breaks of 121 and 124.
