William Saliba of Arsenal leaves the France team due to a toe injury.

Saliba, a French defender born in 2001, won’t be playing for his nation this month due to a “chronic” ailment to his big toe, the French Football Federation said on Sunday evening.

Didier Deschamps has substituted Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo in his place, with whom Saliba shared the centre of the Nice defence during a loan stint in the second half of the 2020–21 campaign.

Todibo, who is chosen above Axel Disasi of Chelsea, rejoins the French team a month after being called up to fill in for the injured Ibrahima Konate. He made his debut in a 2-1 friendly loss to Germany.

“William Saliba is unable to attend the French team’s assembly. The defence for Arsenal is afflicted.
