NBC Universal, Inc. Chris Paul talks about his role with the Warriors on the latest episode of the Dubs Talk Podcast. Longtime Warriors forward and 19-year veteran Andre Iguodala remains very confident in his former team even after his retirement on Friday.
Iguodala appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” with Stephen A. Smith and Christine Williamson on Friday to discuss why he believes Golden State can win the NBA title this season. “When you have Steph Curry on your team, you always have a chance,” Iguodala told Smith and Williamson. “You can never count him out. It’s him or LeBron [James]. You can’t count them out until it’s over.”

Iguodala would know best, as the former NBA All-Star won four championships in eight seasons with Curry and the Warriors in the Bay Area and competed with James in 26 NBA Finals appearances during his career. Iguodala also won the NBA Finals MVP award with the Warriors in 2015 against James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists in six games en route to the ring.
In addition to believing in arguably the best shooter in NBA history in Curry, Iguodala believes the Warriors’ experienced supporting cast will help them bring another championship ticket to the Chase Center.
“I think [Chris Paul] is an addition to this team,” Iguodala told Smith and Williamson. “Steve Kerr has already spoken to it about the leadership he’s brought to the team. Playoffs have historically been a problem for the Warriors. CP is one of those guys who can calm them down.

“I’m really excited about [Paul] and what he can get out of Jonathan Kuminga. Jonathan Kuminga probably had one of the best preseasons in the NBA. [Andrew] Wiggins is Wiggins. Klay [Thompson] is going to be in a contract year.” The Warriors always have something up their sleeve.”
Wiggins missed most of last season for personal reasons, so the Warriors will benefit from having him back for the entire season. For Paul, Thompson and Kuminga, there is plenty of motivation for the first round, a contract extension and a prominent role in the rotation.
Obviously, Iguodala has reason to be excited about Golden State’s lineup.
Although he is no longer a Warrior, Iguodala has high expectations for his former teammates. While his personality, charisma and leadership will be missed in the locker room, his support for Golden State is unwavering. Iguodala will always believe in the Warriors as long as Curry is around.
