Naturally, Xabi Alonso is the front-runner to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. It is understandable why for a number of reasons.
The forty-two-year-old is performing admirably in the Bundesliga. In just a season and a half, he has taken Bayer Leverkusen from battling for relegation to vying for the championship.
On top of that, he’s got the affiliation with Liverpool already. Having played for many years at Anfield – the club is close to his heart. And he is close to Liverpool supporters’ hearts. Especially since Alonso played a key role in the success of Istanbul.
Already a cult hero, and an exciting young manager, it’s easy to see why we as Liverpool fans are all having tunnel vision right now. However, it’s important to note Alonso is not the only candidate, and there might be someone else who could be even better.
