Inspired by McTominay, the Red Devils played with a renewed sense of purpose and hunger, turning on the style to get back to winning ways.

The 26-year-old scored in each half as United prevailed over Mauricio Pochettino’s struggling Blues at home.

Cole Palmer, a former Manchester City player, had just before halftime quieted the home crowd by tying Chelsea.

Alejandro Garnacho set up McTominay, who towered home the game’s winning goal in the 69th minute, but United will not be denied this time around at home.

When the final siren blew, players, staff, and supporters in the Stadium exhaled with relief as the Red Devils finally overcame their weekend setback at St. James’ Park.

With their victory, United also made it 12 games without a loss against the Blues, which is the longest streak Chelsea has ever had against their bitter rivals.
