LOCKED IN Till 2030: 49ers Star QB Brock Purdy Signs 5-Year, $246 Million Extension with Massive Guarantees

San Francisco, CA — July 25, 2025

In a move that firmly cements their long-term future, the San Francisco 49ers have officially locked in their franchise quarterback Brock Purdy, signing him to a five-year, $246 million contract extension that will keep him in the Bay Area through the 2030 NFL season.

The deal includes an eye-popping $185 million in guaranteed money, making it one of the most lucrative and secure contracts for a quarterback in NFL history. The agreement ends months of speculation surrounding Purdy’s future and positions him as the face of the 49ers for the next half-decade — and likely beyond.

From Mr. Irrelevant to Franchise Cornerstone

Purdy’s story continues to defy every expectation. Drafted as the final pick (No. 262 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft — earning the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant” — Purdy became anything but irrelevant for the 49ers.

After injuries sidelined both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo during the 2022 season, Purdy took over under center and shocked the league with his poise, accuracy, and leadership. Since then, he has guided San Francisco to back-to-back NFC Championship appearances and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2024, passing for over 4,300 yards and 34 touchdowns with just eight interceptions.

“This is what dreams are made of,” Purdy said after signing his extension. “From the last pick to a long-term deal with one of the most iconic franchises in football — I’m humbled and honored. But more than anything, I’m hungry to win a Super Bowl for this city.”

A Deal Worthy of a Franchise QB

The $246 million extension averages $49.2 million per year, placing Purdy among the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks alongside names like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Jalen Hurts. Of that total, $185 million is guaranteed — including a $75 million signing bonus — and the deal also features incentives that could push its total value even higher.

“Brock has earned this,” said 49ers General Manager John Lynch. “He’s proven that he can lead this team at the highest level, and he’s done it with toughness, intelligence, and humility. We believe in him — not just as a quarterback, but as the leader of this locker room.”

The extension officially begins in the 2026 season and replaces the final year of Purdy’s rookie contract, which was set to pay him just under $1 million.

49ers Players and Coaches React

Head coach Kyle Shanahan was visibly emotional during the announcement.

“When you find a guy like Brock — a guy who gets it, who lives for the game and gives you everything he’s got — you do everything you can to keep him,” Shanahan said. “He’s one of the toughest players I’ve ever coached. He’s earned every bit of this.”

Star tight end George Kittle shared a heartfelt message on social media:
“We ride with QB1 till 2030 and beyond. Couldn’t be happier for my guy.”

Defensive end Nick Bosa added: “He’s a winner. He brings that fire every day. This locker room believes in him.”

Fans Celebrate Commitment to the Future

49ers fans celebrated the announcement with overwhelming enthusiasm. Hashtags like #PurdyLockedIn, #QB1For2030, and #FaithfulToTheBay quickly trended in California and across the country.

“Brock Purdy signing long-term is the best offseason move we could’ve made,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). “We’ve got our guy. Let’s go win that Lombardi.”

Many fans noted the poetic nature of Purdy’s rise — from overlooked rookie to the undisputed leader of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises.

Super Bowl Aspirations Now Clearer Than Ever

With key players like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Fred Warner, and Nick Bosa all under contract, the 49ers now have their quarterback of the future locked in as well. The franchise’s championship window remains wide open — and now more stable than ever.

“Every year, the goal is the same: win it all,” Purdy said. “Now I’ve got the stability to focus solely on that. The organization believes in me, and I believe in this team. Let’s finish the job.”

A Legacy in the Making

What started as an improbable underdog tale is now evolving into a legacy-defining career. With this deal, Brock Purdy becomes the latest in a line of legendary 49ers quarterbacks — joining the likes of Joe Montana and Steve Young — but carving his own path, one game at a time.

Locked in until 2030, Purdy now has the backing, the talent, and the time to turn his storybook beginning into a Hall of Fame journey.
