It’s about to become a little more comfortable to sit in Acrisure Stadium for Pittsburgh Steelers home games. 22,000 seats inside Acrisure will be upgraded over the next two years. That project will begin this year to replace broken and rusted seats original to the stadium.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Big changes are coming to Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the team and the city have announced a major upgrade that will make the fan experience more comfortable and modern than ever. Over the next two years, the stadium will undergo a massive seating renovation, replacing 22,000 worn, rusted, and outdated seats that have been in place since the venue first opened its doors in 2001.
The project, which will begin later this year, aims to enhance the comfort and aesthetics of the iconic stadium while preserving the atmosphere that has made Acrisure — formerly known as Heinz Field — one of the most electric environments in the NFL.
According to Steelers officials, the new seats will be made with improved materials designed to resist rust and weather damage, ensuring long-term durability against Pittsburgh’s tough winter conditions. Fans can also expect wider, more ergonomic designs that provide added legroom and support — a welcome change for season ticket holders who have spent decades cheering on the black and gold from the same metal frames.
“This upgrade is long overdue,” said Omar Khan, Steelers general manager. “The fans are the heartbeat of this franchise, and they deserve to have the best experience possible every time they come out to support this team. The seating overhaul will be completed in phases to ensure minimal disruption during home games. Construction is expected to begin during the offseason and continue between the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Officials have confirmed that the project will not affect the Steelers’ home schedule, and all seating areas under renovation will be managed to maintain safe access for fans.
In addition to replacing the seats, the project includes minor structural maintenance and updates to several concourses. Stadium representatives have hinted that the improvements could eventually extend to digital signage, concession areas, and accessibility features, aligning Acrisure with other state-of-the-art NFL venues.
