BREAKING: Haiden Deegan Suffers Chest Trauma in High-Speed Crash — Conscious and Stable, Undergoing Further Evaluation

April 16, 2025 – Anaheim, CA — The motocross world held its breath today as rising star Haiden Deegan suffered a serious crash during a high-speed segment of a motocross event, resulting in trauma to his chest area. Deegan, 18, was immediately attended to by medical personnel and later transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Initial assessments confirmed that Deegan is conscious, responsive, and has no neurological or limb impairments, a positive sign amid an otherwise concerning situation.

However, doctors have diagnosed the young Monster Energy Yamaha rider with a rib contusion on the right side of his thorax and a pneumothorax — a medical condition in which air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall, potentially causing lung collapse if not treated promptly.

“He’s alert and in stable condition,” said a representative from Star Racing Yamaha. “He was taken to the hospital primarily for precautionary reasons and to undergo a CT scan for in-depth investigation. Haiden is in good spirits and speaking with doctors.”

The Incident

The crash occurred during the second heat of the day, as Deegan attempted to execute a triple jump coming off a rhythm section. Footage shows the rear tire of his bike slipping as he landed, which caused him to high-side violently and come down hard on his right side. Medical teams rushed to his aid and stabilized him trackside before he was transported via ambulance.

Spectators were initially silent as Deegan lay motionless for several seconds, but cheers erupted as he signaled to medics and gave a thumbs-up while being loaded into the ambulance.

What is a Pneumothorax?

A pneumothorax, commonly known as a collapsed lung, occurs when air escapes from the lung and fills the space outside it within the chest wall. It can lead to shortness of breath, chest pain, and in severe cases, respiratory distress. While many pneumothoraxes resolve with rest and observation, some require the insertion of a chest tube to remove the air and allow the lung to re-expand.

Medical professionals say Deegan’s case appears moderate, but they will continue monitoring his vital signs and lung function before making a determination about his return to competition.

Rising Star in the Sport

Haiden Deegan, the son of freestyle motocross legend Brian Deegan, has quickly become one of the most popular and promising young riders in AMA Supercross and Motocross. Known for his fearless style, competitive drive, and natural charisma, Deegan has built a massive fanbase and is considered the future face of the sport.

His team has not provided a timetable for his recovery, but sources close to the Deegan family say they are optimistic and grateful for the support flooding in from across the motocross community.

“We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” said Brian Deegan. “Haiden is tough. He’s already asking when he can get back on the bike. We’re going to make sure he’s fully healed before that happens.”

Looking Ahead

Deegan’s participation in the upcoming rounds of the championship remains uncertain as medical teams await further test results. Updates are expected in the coming days as doctors determine the extent of internal damage and assess his readiness to return to riding.

For now, the motocross world breathes a cautious sigh of relief, grateful that one of its brightest young stars is still standing strong — and fighting.
