Wednesday, after an unbelievable VAR gaffe cost the Reds a goal, Jurgen Klopp urged that Liverpool’s loss against Tottenham be replayed, adding that it would be the ‘proper thing’ to do.
When VAR Darren England realised that Colombian winger Luis Diaz was onside, he mistakenly thought the on-field ruling had been a goal and disallowed Diaz’s shot. The game resumed with a free kick to Spurs rather than a goal being declared. Later, the chiefs of the referees acknowledged a “significant human error.”
When referring to the VAR tape, which was made public on Tuesday, Klopp remarked, “The audio didn’t change things at all.” It was reported that England and his colleagues noticed their mistake fast, and the official exclaimed, “Oh f***,” in frustration.
Before Thursday night’s Europa League match between Liverpool and Union Saint-Gilloise, Klopp stated, “We need to deal with it in a proper way.” The parties concerned did not intend to do it that way.
The only result should be a replay, not because I’m the manager of Liverpool but more because I love football. That is how things are, and it probably won’t. The counterargument will be that everyone will ask for it if we open that gate, but the circumstance is so unusual.
Following VAR’s’significant error’ in disallowing Luis Diaz’s goal during Saturday’s 2-1 away loss, Jurgen Klopp has demanded that Liverpool’s match against Tottenham be replayed.
