Adam Lewis, a Liverpool defender on loan at Newport County, was left “fuming” after sustaining yet another major injury; a lengthy recovery time is anticipated.
Lewis is in his second season with Newport after having his first season cut short by a nasty hamstring injury the last time around.
The left-back went back to Merseyside in February, missing the rest of the team’s League Two season as they finished 15th. His fresh stint was a case of unfinished business.
Unfortunately, he sustained an injury in the 12th game of the current campaign that manager Graham Coughlan described as “similar” to his prior one but “on the opposite side.”
With no estimated time for his recuperation at this point, the 23-year-old is expected to miss the next three months at the very least.
“It will be longer than December, he is out, and it’s a similar injury to last year, but on the opposite side,” Coughlan told the South Wales Argus.
It’s incredibly awful and difficult to take.
Although it would be premature to assume Lewis’ loan will be revoked as it was last season, he is set to return to Liverpool for medical treatment.
Prior to his defeat against Salford City last week, the Scouser had made 10 straight starts in League Two and returned to Newport as the team’s first-choice starter.
During that stretch, I played three games as a centre defender in a three-man defence and contributed a goal and an assist to a 3-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers in August.
Lewis’ term with Liverpool is expected to remain at least until 2024, contrary to original reports that it would expire last summer.
