Coyotes’ third-period struggles continue as they fall to the Islanders 5-1.

When the Florida Panthers defeated the Coyotes 4-1 on Tuesday, they faced a similar problem: they gave up two goals in less than a minute in the third period, smothering any chance of a potential comeback.

The Islanders scored quickly after Coyotes centre Nick Bjugstad was given a penalty at 7:45 in the game.

After being left alone in the slot for 0:11, Horvat scored his 15th goal of the year to give New York a 1-0 lead.

After using his quickness to break past Arizona’s blue line, Mathew Barzal found Mike Reilly with a saucer pass, who beat Connor Ingram with a one-timer.

At 3:29 of the second period, Nick Schmaltz scored to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead. Nick Schmaltz’s goal was set up by Sean Durzi.

Halfway through the middle 20 minutes, Horvat had a great chance to add another goal, but as he skated closer and closer to Ingram, the puck rolled off the blade of his stick.

Following Horvat’s missed opportunity, Arizona quickly gained momentum and penetrated the Islanders’ hard-to-break defensive system, outshooting them 13–7 at the end of the frame.

But as they went into the third, defensive blunders caused them to lose the rhythm and momentum they had developed in the second half of the game.

Juuso Välimäki passed the puck right on the tape to Islanders captain Anders Lee in the left corner of Arizona’s defence zone. Lee made no mistakes once in possession and went five holes on Ingram. After Lee, at 0:52, Julian Gauthier added another for New York.

Horvat scored his second goal of the game to put the ‘Yotes out of the game, continuing towreak havoc on the team. His shot was sent high and left into the net.

André Tourigny, the head coach of the Coyotes, was not holding back despite being disappointed with the outcome.

Tourigny remarked, “I think we struggled to execute throughout the entire game. Our puck play was difficult, even the simple plays were difficult.” “I think we were severely hurt by our execution.”

Like his coach, Välimäki expressed that the team was having some low moments in the locker room, but he still wants them to stay together.

“I believe that we should all look in the mirror; now is not the time to panic or engage in such behaviour,” Välimäki stated. We haven’t played well at all the past two games, so I believe it is time for us to unite as a team. We must grow, but we must also keep in mind to maintain our unity and optimism as a group.
