To sum up his performance against Man City, Nathan Ake said, "I wasn't happy with myself."

On Saturday, Nathan Ake, a defender for Manchester City, struggled as his team lost 2-1 to Wolves in the Premier League.

The 2-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday was one of the most difficult games Nathan Ake has had to play in since wearing a Manchester City jersey, and he was not ‘happy’ with his performance.

A 2-1 loss to Wolves on Saturday interrupted City’s perfect start to the new Premier League season. It was City’s second setback in a week, following their elimination from the Carabao Cup at the hands of Newcastle on Wednesday. Aside from an early chance for Erling Haaland, the Blues had a hard time creating against a tenacious Wolves defense.

To sum up his performance against Man City, Nathan Ake said, "I wasn't happy with myself."

From the very first seconds, the Molineux fans made their displeasure with visiting Brazilian forward Matheus Nunes clear. Pedro Neto scored the winning goal for the home team after intercepting a ball from Mateo Kovacic and going on a superb run.

Neto sidestepped Phil Foden and ignored a push from Ake before seeing a cutback from Ruben Dias deflected into the goal. Wolves weren’t put off by Julian Alvarez’s equalizer from a free kick, as they kept finding ways to expose City by getting in behind. Ake had an especially hard time facing City’s Neto and Nelson Semedo.

The latter’s pass into the area caused mayhem, and Matheus Cunha set up Hwang Hee-chan for the game-winning goal. After the game, Ake admitted that he had played poorly.

As a group, “we did not perform well enough,” he said. We should have been able to halt all of their counterattacks. It was my fault; I should have intervened.

There were a couple times when I could have performed considerably better. Certainly, I shall focus on my own appearance before considering anyone else. In my opinion, we could have performed lot better if we had tried. It was [a dismal showing] for sure, but I know I wasn’t proud of my own efforts.

The squad as a whole should have done better, but I know I need to start with my own performance.

The Dutchman elaborated, saying, “Personally I think yes, a few occasions I could have done better,” when asked if it was one of his toughest games for the Blues. It was a touch of luck that he managed to keep the ball when I tackled him in the first half, but ordinarily I would have gotten it in that scenario.
