LOS GATOS, CA — Netflix has just dropped a bombshell in the motorsports world with the official announcement of “The Underdog,” a highly anticipated documentary chronicling the life and career of Scott Dean Bloomquist, one of the most legendary and polarizing figures in Dirt Super Late Model racing.

The streaming giant has confirmed that the feature-length film will premiere globally on May 15, 2025, promising an unfiltered and emotional look into the rise, fall, and redemption of one of racing’s most enigmatic icons.

Known for his distinctive persona, controversial past, and undeniable dominance on dirt tracks across America, Bloomquist’s story is one of grit, genius, and grit-fueled glory. With over 600 career wins, multiple national championships, and a legacy as the most talked-about driver in dirt racing history, his life was tailor-made for a cinematic spotlight.

“Scott Bloomquist is a true underdog in every sense,” said Netflix Sports Documentaries executive producer Lena Ruiz. “He’s been both hero and villain, champion and outcast. This film captures the raw, unfiltered essence of a man who defied the odds and built an empire out of dirt.”

A Legacy Forged in Clay and Chaos

Born in California and raised across the American Southwest, Bloomquist exploded onto the dirt racing scene in the 1980s with a swagger and style never seen before. With his signature black #0 car, sleek wrap-around sunglasses, and a rock-and-roll attitude, he quickly became the face of Dirt Late Model racing — both loved and loathed for his unapologetic personality and unmatched dominance on the track.

Despite battling injuries, off-track controversies, and constant scrutiny, Bloomquist won numerous World 100s, Dream 100s, and Dirt Track World Championships, cementing his legacy as the greatest to ever slide a Late Model around a clay oval.

“I never did this to make friends,” Bloomquist says in the trailer. “I did this because I wanted to be the best — no matter what it cost.”

Inside the Documentary

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Travis Neumann, “The Underdog” uses a blend of archival race footage, intimate interviews, and never-before-seen behind-the-scenes clips to trace Bloomquist’s journey — from rebellious teen building his first race car in a garage, to becoming a multi-million-dollar racing operation owner, to his struggles with injury, addiction, and redemption.

The film also features candid commentary from notable racing figures, including Donnie Moran, Jimmy Owens, Kyle Larson, and Tony Stewart, as well as interviews with Bloomquist’s closest friends, family members, and long-time rivals.

“There’s Scott the driver, and there’s Scott the man,” Neumann says. “This film shows both — the invincible racer, and the deeply complicated human being who never backed down from a fight, even when the fight was within himself.”

The Road to Redemption

One of the central arcs of the documentary is Bloomquist’s post-2019 journey — battling back from devastating injuries after a motorcycle accident, facing age and physical decline, and returning to the track while mentoring younger racers through Team Zero.

In one emotional segment, Bloomquist breaks down reflecting on his legacy and the cost of his success.

“They saw the wins, the trophies, the fans. They didn’t see the nights I couldn’t sleep, the people I lost along the way, or the times I thought I’d never race again,” he says.

The film culminates in Bloomquist’s comeback attempt during the 2024 season, where he made surprise appearances at major dirt races, proving that his fire still burned — and his legend still lived.

Fan Anticipation Reaches Fever Pitch

Since Netflix teased the project earlier this year, fans of both motorsport and true storytelling have been buzzing with excitement. Social media exploded with reactions after today’s official release date announcement, with hashtags like #TheUnderdogNetflix and #TeamZeroLivesOn trending nationwide.

Dirt racing promoters and sanctioning bodies have even announced special “Underdog Nights” at tracks across the country, where fans will gather to watch the premiere on big screens at the speedway.

“Scott Bloomquist is our Jordan, our Ali,” said longtime fan Derek Lawson. “He changed everything — for better or worse. I’ve never missed a race of his, and I won’t miss this documentary.”

Streaming May 15, Only on Netflix

“The Underdog” hits Netflix worldwide on May 15th, with subtitles in 14 languages and a deluxe behind-the-scenes featurette available for premium users.

As the world gears up to relive the jaw-dropping career of Scott Bloomquist, one thing is clear: the underdog never stopped fighting — and now, the world is finally watching.
