This is an impressive statistic considering that it includes not only league games, but also Europa League and Carabao Cup wins. The ambition of a top club like Liverpool – to compete to the end in every competition – this year feels like a club that was three halves of football away from winning the vaunted double just two years ago. Not only is this Liverpool look locked in, but they are showing amazing mental strength, taking more points out of the relegation zone than any other club going into the final game. And with two wins over the Cards, the current table – 1 point clear of league leaders Manchester City – seems an even more special achievement. It turns out that Liverpool’s victory over Brentford also helped the club reach the record that was achieved in 1980 when Bob Paisley was in the team. This latest win made it 9 home wins in a row by at least 2 goals. In other words, this Liverpool team doesn’t just win games at Anfield, they do it by dominating the opposition. It’s hard to imagine that a club that slumped towards the end of the season last year could look so capable and dangerous now. When all is said and done, if Liverpool simply continue their current form, it might be easy to believe that this year will be Klopp’s most impressive turn as a manager. A midfield that included Liverpool’s longest-serving player and iconic captain, a defensive midfielder whose ability the club had long struggled to find a successor to, and legend James Milner, became one of the most feared and dynamic midfielders. the game is truly a masterstroke in both recruiting and tactical flourishes. Let’s hope this is just the start of Klopp unleashing his magic at the club.
