Jurgen Klopp hints he could start 25-year-old Liverpool player in midfield vs Brentford .
The Reds have a slight selection problem as they prepare to face Brentford on Sunday. Not only is Alexis Mac Allister suspended, but Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch are now injured, too.
In theory, that leaves just Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo as options. But with Endo struggling against Toulouse last night, Klopp has hinted that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be deployed in midfield. “It’s a possibility,” the manager said, via the Liverpool ECHO, when asked if Trent could be in the middle of the park.
“It depends on the opponents and the situation and things like that, but we know he can play there.” For us, if we put him there, we will lose one of the best right-backs in the world and we mustn’t completely forget that. But of course he is the choice for this place.”
Klopp acknowledges Trent’s option
Considering Endo struggled so hard last night, few would want to start him in the majors this weekend. Therefore, Klopp needs to think a little outside the box. So Trent is the natural next choice. Unless Jürgen wants to bring in an academy player like James McConnell, he has little choice.
That’s great of course, Alexander-Arnold has already done this job and clearly enjoys it.
ANOTHER LIVERPOOL STORY
The only problem then is just like Klopp says – Liverpool will lose their right back. Normally that would be fine, Joe Gomez usually works there and has been very good this season.
But owing to the poor form of Kostas Tsimikas, Gomez may be needed at left-back. Without the 26-year-old, there’s no real substitute for Trent.

So, while Liverpool may have been backed to win comfortably against Brentford, this isn’t as straightforward a game as it may look.
The Bees are in terrific form having won their last three Premier League games. There’s no margin for error for the Reds. At home, though, you expect them to find a way. Trent has the potential to be brilliant in midfield and Liverpool should have most of the ball. Give him time and space and the 25-year-old is a real weapon. Let’s see what Jürgen decides.
