Ten Hag informed the media after the loss to Arsenal that Sancho was not with the first team because of his play in training. The 23-year-old shot against the rumor on social media, saying he was made a’scapegoat’ at Old Trafford.

Since then, Ten Hag has put the onus on Sancho to prove himself worthy of reintegration into the first-team group by training alone from the rest of the squad. The former Borussia Dortmund player watched the under-18s play Nottingham Forest at the Reds’ training base in September while his colleagues prepared for the visit of Brighton and Hove Albion.

While United was getting ready for another Premier League match on a gloomy Saturday afternoon, Sancho and Mainoo were back at Carrington. The young center midfielder is now sidelined after injuring his ankle during the team’s preseason tour of the United States.
