Motocross Legend Ricky Carmichael’s Daughter, Elise, Undergoes Cancer Surgery in Brave Battle Against Brain Tumor

June 16, 2025 — Tallahassee, Florida —

Elise Carmichael, the daughter of motocross legend Ricky Carmichael, has undergone major surgery to remove a brain tumor in a courageous fight that has touched the hearts of millions around the world. At just 17 years old, Elise has shown incredible bravery and determination in the face of one of life’s most daunting challenges.

The Carmichael family confirmed that Elise was diagnosed earlier this year with a rare but aggressive form of brain tumor known as anaplastic astrocytoma. Symptoms began to surface in late March when Elise experienced frequent migraines, visual disturbances, and fainting spells. After extensive testing and MRIs, specialists at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville identified a sizable mass located in the frontal lobe of her brain.

“She started having these headaches that wouldn’t go away, and her energy levels were just not the same,” Ricky Carmichael said in an emotional press conference earlier this week. “As a father, your mind goes to the worst, but you have to stay strong for your child. Once the diagnosis came in, our whole world changed.”

The surgery, which lasted over six hours, was performed on June 13th by one of the nation’s leading neurosurgeons. The medical team was able to remove approximately 95% of the tumor, with minimal impact on surrounding tissue. Doctors are currently awaiting pathology results to determine the next course of treatment, which may include chemotherapy, radiation, or advanced immunotherapy.

According to medical sources, the early detection and prompt surgical intervention significantly increased Elise’s chances of recovery. “The success of the operation gives us hope,” said Dr. Emily Shore, one of the neurosurgeons on the case. “Elise’s youth, combined with the skill of the surgical team and her strong support system, are all positive indicators as we move forward.”

The motocross community has responded with an overwhelming outpouring of love and support. Tributes have flooded social media from riders, fans, sponsors, and racing organizations around the globe. Hashtags like #EliseStrong, #CarmichaelCourage, and #RideForElise have trended for days as the motocross world comes together in solidarity.

Even rival riders and teams have shared words of encouragement. Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, and Jett Lawrence all posted heartfelt messages on Instagram wishing Elise a full and speedy recovery. “There are no rivals when it comes to family and health,” Roczen wrote. “We’re all riding for Elise now.”

Elise, a high school junior with dreams of studying sports medicine, is described by friends and teachers as humble, strong-willed, and compassionate. Known for helping organize charity races and community service events with her father, she has always displayed a maturity beyond her years.

“Her positivity has always lit up every room she walks into,” said close friend and classmate Ava Hastings. “She’s the type of person who’s always helping others — now it’s our turn to lift her up.”

Ricky Carmichael, who earned his title as the “Greatest of All Time” with 15 AMA championships and five perfect seasons, has always emphasized the importance of family throughout his storied career. Now, as a father fighting alongside his daughter, he is leaning on the same resilience and focus that made him a champion.

“The racing world taught me about grit and determination,” he said. “But nothing prepares you for something like this. Elise is the real champion here. Her courage is inspiring.”

The Carmichael family has asked for continued privacy as Elise begins her recovery and post-surgery treatment. However, they also expressed gratitude for the prayers, donations, and messages of hope received from around the world.

In response to the overwhelming support, the Carmichaels have announced plans to establish the Elise Strong Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting pediatric and adolescent brain tumor research, as well as families undergoing similar experiences. More details are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

As Elise begins her road to recovery, one thing is clear — she is not alone. She has the backing of not just a loving family, but an entire global motocross community, united in strength, hope, and love.

“We’re not giving up,” Ricky Carmichael said, voice thick with emotion. “This is just the beginning of a new kind of race — and we’re in it together.”
