NEWS: Ty Simpson Donates Entire $102.9 Million Bonus and Sponsorship Earnings to Fund 150-Unit Homeless Shelter Initiative
In a remarkable act of generosity that has captured national attention, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has announced that he will donate his entire $102.9 million bonus and sponsorship earnings to build a 150-unit homeless shelter initiative in his home state of Tennessee. The 21-year-old quarterback, known for his leadership and humility both on and off the field, said the donation is part of his lifelong goal to “use football as a platform for purpose.”
The project, officially named “The Simpson Strong Foundation Housing Initiative,” will establish a massive 150-unit complex designed to provide stable housing, healthcare access, and job training opportunities to individuals and families struggling with homelessness. The shelter will be located in Martin, Tennessee, not far from where Simpson grew up, making the move deeply personal for the young star.
During a press conference at Bryant–Denny Stadium, Simpson shared the emotional motivation behind his decision.
“When I was a kid, I watched my parents give to people even when we didn’t have much. They always said, ‘You can’t help everyone, but you can help someone.’ That stuck with me. Now that I’ve been blessed with this opportunity, it’s my turn to give back in a big way.”
The initiative will feature state-of-the-art housing units, community kitchens, counseling services, and educational programs aimed at helping residents become self-sufficient. It will also include a mentorship center where volunteers and former residents can share their success stories and help others transition into independent living.
University of Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer praised Simpson’s selfless act, calling it “a reflection of character far beyond the football field.”
“Ty leads by example in every sense,” DeBoer said. “He’s the kind of young man who makes you proud to coach. What he’s doing here will touch lives for generations.”
Construction for the Simpson Strong Foundation Housing Initiative is set to begin in early 2026, with the first phase expected to be completed by late 2027. The project will partner with local Tennessee non-profits, housing authorities, and churches to ensure sustainable operations and ongoing community support.
News of Simpson’s decision has sent waves across social media, with fans, players, and even rival schools expressing admiration. One comment on X (formerly Twitter) read: “Ty Simpson just proved that greatness isn’t about how far you can throw — it’s about how big your heart is.”
Experts believe Simpson’s donation could inspire a new wave of philanthropy among college and professional athletes, particularly in the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) era, where young players are gaining unprecedented earning power.
Still, Simpson remains humble about the attention his act has received.
“This isn’t about fame or headlines,” he said. “It’s about making sure people have a place to sleep, to feel safe, and to start over. If even one person’s life changes for the better because of this, it’ll all be worth it.”
With his extraordinary act of kindness, Ty Simpson has not only made a name for himself in college football but has also set a timeless example of compassion, purpose, and what true leadership looks like — both on and off the field.
