Rafael Devers was left out of the Red Sox lineup due to a shoulder injury.

After just one game of the 2024 MLB season, the Boston Red Sox are in danger of injuries.

The organization confirmed around two hours prior to first pitch that Rafael Devers was a late scratch from Friday’s lineup against the Seattle Mariners due to left shoulder pain. Bobby Dalbec took the two-time All-Star’s place at third base.

As per the Red Sox’s X account, this is the new lineup:

It goes without saying that the Red Sox cannot afford to lose Devers for a lengthy period of time, especially since they are starting the season with low expectations. There are no strong candidates on the squad to take the place of the 27-year-old, who is the most formidable batter in the lineup.

Devers just finished off a fantastic game as Boston defeated Seattle 6-4 on Opening Day. He had a double, a home run, and two RBI while going 2-for-5 at the plate.

On Friday night, his absence will be felt against Mariners starter George Kirby. Against the right-hander, Devers is 5-for-10 with a home run in his career.
