76ersand#039; Joel Embiid is the same as the great Wilt Chamberlain when he beat the Celtics

It’s incredibly early in the 2023-24 NBA season, but reigning MVP Joel Embiid has picked up right where he left off. Another standout performance on the stat sheet in Wednesday’s win over the rival Boston Celtics saw Embiid become a Sixers Hall of Famer and  NBA all-time great.  Embiid had 27 points and 10 rebounds in the Sixers’ 106-103 win over the Celtics. According to ESPN Stats and Data, Embiid is the first 76ers player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1965 to average 30 points and 10 rebounds through the first seven games of a season. According to Stathead, Embiid is only the 15th player in NBA history to accomplish the feat. Seven players have done it multiple times, while only Elgin Baylor (5) and Chamberlain (8) have done it more than twice. Embiid is just the third active player to average 30 and 10 over seven games, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo (2017, 2022) and Anthony Davis (2016). From the outside looking in, the  James Harden trade looked like a big loss for the Sixers. Only a few games, but it seems to be addition by subtraction. Yes,  Embiid and the Sixers seem to be doing well in the post-Harden era. Since an opening night loss against the Milwaukee Bucks, Philly has rattled off six straight wins, including  over the Phoenix Suns (112-100) and  Celtics on Wednesday. Embiid and Tyrese Maxey — the replacement for Hardenand#039; at point guard — becomes quite the dynamic duo. In the Sixers’ victory over the Celtics, they scored a total of 52 points, 19 rebounds and nine assists. Maxey scored 26 points with nine rebounds to tie for the team lead  (5). At 6-1, the Sixers are now atop the Eastern Conference and one of  two NBA teams  (Denver Nuggets, 7-1) with only one loss.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. says goodbye to the Diamondbacks on Instagram

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from the Toronto Blue Jays  in December 2022 in arguably the best trade in recent franchise history. It was also the trade that sent catcher Gabriel Moreno to Arizona. In his sixth season in the MLB, Gurriel exceeded all expectations. He hit a career-high 24 home runs, maintained a solid .261 batting average and earned his first All-Star selection. Gurriel then remained a steady bat in the D-backs’ lineup during their improbable postseason run. Whether it was a seven-game hitting streak, three home runs or 11 RBIs, Gurriel played a key role in Arizona’s October success. However, it appears that he will not be back with the team for another season. On Monday, Gurriel posted a heartfelt goodbye on his Instagram account. Gabriel was in the comments
