LOCKED IN UNTIL 2030: 49ers Star Quarterback Brock Purdy Signs Five-Year, $246 Million Extension With Massive Guarantees

June 30, 2025 | Santa Clara, CA

The San Francisco 49ers have made it official: Brock Purdy is their quarterback of the future. The team announced today that it has signed its breakout star to a five-year, $246 million contract extension, keeping him under center through the 2030 NFL season.

The deal marks one of the largest and most guaranteed-rich extensions in NFL history, with $190 million fully guaranteed at signing. In addition to the base salary, the extension includes:

  • A $50 million signing bonus
  • A no-trade clause
  • Annual Pro Bowl and playoff appearance incentives
  • Lifetime access to the team’s performance and rehabilitation facilities

With this signing, the 49ers are locking in the leader of their offense and officially turning the page to a new era built around a former “Mr. Irrelevant” who became football royalty.

From Last Pick to Franchise QB

Drafted with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Brock Purdy was initially seen as a developmental backup. But when injuries struck the 49ers’ quarterback room in late 2022, Purdy stepped in and never looked back.

He led the team on a miraculous run to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie, followed by a Super Bowl appearance in 2024, where his poise, accuracy, and game management drew praise from legends across the league. In just two and a half seasons as a starter, he has compiled:

  • 32-9 career record as a starter
  • 67.4% career completion rate
  • 79 career touchdown passes
  • Two Pro Bowl selections

Team Statement: “He Earned This”

At today’s press conference, General Manager John Lynch and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan stood beside Purdy to announce the deal.

“This contract is a symbol of everything Brock stands for — perseverance, performance, leadership,” Lynch said. “He’s earned this every step of the way, and today we proudly say: he’s our guy.”

Shanahan echoed the sentiment.

“There’s no player I trust more in the fourth quarter, with the game on the line,” Shanahan said. “He’s calm, prepared, and always puts the team first. I’m thrilled we’re building the future of this franchise with him at the core.”

Purdy: “I’m Locked In — For Good”

Purdy, visibly emotional, thanked his teammates, coaches, and the 49ers faithful.

“This organization changed my life,” Purdy said. “From being the last pick to starting in a Super Bowl — and now this extension — it’s been a wild ride. But I’m not looking back. I’m locked in, for good.”

He also made a commitment to the fans.

“San Francisco, I’m not just playing for this logo — I’m playing for every fan who stuck with us, for every kid who was told they weren’t good enough. This is more than football. This is home.”

Players React to the News

Reaction around the league was swift and celebratory. 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams posted:

“Protecting QB1 through 2030. Let’s go eat. 💪 #Faithful”

Tight end George Kittle tweeted:

“Couldn’t happen to a better dude. Let’s run it back.”

Meanwhile, former quarterback Tom Brady called the extension “well-deserved,” telling ESPN:

“He’s smart, calm, and efficient. Brock Purdy plays the game the right way.”

A Statement to the League

This deal also sends a strong message to the rest of the NFL: The 49ers aren’t going anywhere. With key players like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner all under contract, San Francisco is positioning itself for sustained dominance in the NFC.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that several teams had inquired about Purdy during his rookie season, believing the 49ers might not fully commit long-term. Today’s extension shuts that door permanently.

“This isn’t just a contract,” Schefter said. “It’s a declaration: the 49ers believe Brock Purdy can win them multiple championships.”

Looking Ahead

With the quarterback position secured, San Francisco will now shift its focus to building depth around Purdy, bolstering the offensive line, and solidifying the running back room behind Christian McCaffrey. But with their leader under center for the next five years, stability is finally here.

For Brock Purdy, the journey from overlooked rookie to franchise cornerstone is complete — and just getting started.

“The story’s still being written,” he said. “But now, I get to write it here, with this team, this city, and these fans — until the very last page.”
